Between mountain forests, creeks, and lakes, the upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, now comprising 14,966 acres of marsh and open water, was established in 1928. With an elevation of slightly above 4,000 feet, it lies in the shadow of the forested east base of the Cascade Mountains and is watered by mountain streams and deep, clear springs that run year-round. Just down the slope from Sky Lakes Wilderness area, many travelers on their way to Crater Lake National park have been amazed and inspired by this nature lovers paradise.
