Rocky Point Resort sits on the west shore of Upper Klamath Lake among tall ponderosa pines, on the Fremont-Winema National Forest, next to the Rocky Point Day Use Area and boat launch. From its shore the Upper Klamath Canoe Trail winds into the marsh.

It is one of the oldest lakeside retreats in the Klamath Basin. The resort was founded in the 1880s, when the area was known as Leavitt's Point. Around 1910 steamboats from Klamath Falls met the Crater Lake automobile stage line here, and travelers finished the trip to Crater Lake overland. Through the 1930s Upper Klamath Lake was a favorite summer retreat for San Francisco's upper class.

Today the shoreline is a place for fishing, paddling and bird watching on the lake and the canoe trail.

Getting there

From Klamath Falls, take Oregon Highway 140 west toward Medford for about 25 miles, turn right onto the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway (West Side Road) and follow it for 3 miles, then turn right and then left onto Rocky Point Road.
